Bombay finally has their official skate spot that’s going to make this year end on an awesome note. The new scene is at the latest Social Offline outpost in Khar with an incredible environment of work and play.
Inspired by low-income housing the project is a workspace-cum-bar. The interior of the café lounge is unconventional and fresh. The sofas are swings; the daily paper sits in a signature red bucket and there's an innovative menu for the munchies. The most amusing feature is Mumbaichi newest skate spot though! The super rad spot is designed by Nick Smith in association with Red Bull.
"With the opening of Khar Social imminent, the Bombay skate scene finally has its purpose built skate spot. Having built a mini ramp at Wadhala Bombay last year (that only lasted a weekend before getting accidentally destroyed) it's somewhat of a personal victory to complete this installation. I'm hyped on seeing what the impact of this spot will be, both in terms of the progression of the skaters and also regarding how having a skate spot at a high profile venue like Social will establish skateboarding as a something that is now in India. I would like to thank Red Bull for calling me down for this and also acknowledge Riyaaz Amlani for the having the idea in the first place. He's made it very clear that he wants skaters to come and use the place 7 days a week before 7:30 when it will be transformed into a low level cushioned chill out area. Riyaaz has even gone further by setting up an initiative whereby Social Customers will be encouraged to donate 50 INR to the Advaita Project's Crowdfund campaign to build spots and set up board press in India."
Says Nick Smith; The Godfather of Skateboarding in India.
Khar Social Offline is going to be a great spot for skaters in and around Bombay to skill-up and also a huge motivation for the budding skate culture in India.
"For such a small place, it's built very well. It has a good flow, no matter what you build- flow is very very important, there should not be a dead end anywhere. The place is awesome, It's already with a pub so... (laughs). I haven't been able to shred it yet because of my dislocated collar bone, but I just couldn't resist and had a mellow ride."
